Good people make mistakes.
Alcohol charges are usually against good people who have made a bad decision. In Iowa, public intoxication and OWI/DUI charges can come with hefty fines and time in jail, but I work with my clients to help reduce or eliminate those fines or jail time.
Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct or Disobedience to an Officer
Iowa is a state in which public intoxication can come with a hefty penalty. If you have been involved in a scuffle with casino staff, security guards or police in Council Bluffs, you might have been charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct or disobedience to a police officer. If you are facing any of these charges, a fine and time in jail are potential penalties. You can be fined $625 and imprisoned for 30 days for public intoxication. If you are a visitor from out of town and have been charged with an alcohol related crime, it is important to seek the help of local counsel. Contact me for a free initial consultation to discuss your case and the possibility of reduced or eliminated fines or jail time.
Drunk Driving
Is there a difference between DWI, DUI or OWI? All three terms are used to refer to driving while intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol. Iowa has an operating while intoxicated law that comes with heavy fines and jail time. The minimum punishment for a first-time OWI charge is usually $1,250 in fines in addition to two days in jail. Your driver's license may also be revoked for 180 days or more.
I can help. An experienced lawyer can help you reduce or eliminate your fines or jail time. I will work with you to retain or get back your license so that you can continue to drive to work or school, and I will fight for a reduced sentence. Even though OWI/DUI charges have minimum penalties, it is possible to have those reduced in some cases. Contact me to discuss your alcohol charges.
If you are facing other traffic violation charges, I can help you get back on track. Contact me for a free initial consultation to talk about possible solutions to your traffic charges.
